SynergEyes iD’s unique design

Here at Positive Impact, back in the autumn of 2021, we announced the UK launch of the new SynergEyes iD, a lens that is being seen as the next generation of hybrid contact lenses.

That sounds like a big claim and for those who have started to embrace this new technology it really has proved a breakthrough in contact lens design for people with astigmatism, presbyopia, hyperopia or myopia.

Many of you will be familiar with the established Duette lens, which corrects corneal astigmatism up to 6.00D with the use of the tear lens removing all rotational issues associated with soft toric lenses, a clear advantage especially where presbyopes are concerned.

The new SynergEyes iD lenses include a multifocal which is powered by a proprietary Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) design from the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI), with proven multifocal optics providing patients with a clear visual experience that transitions smoothly through all distances.

SynergEyes iD hybrid lenses are individually designed to each patient’s unique ocular measurements utilising keratometry, horizontal visible iris diameter (HVID) readings and spectacle refraction, to personalise precise lens parameters.

A patient’s unique corneal diameter and curvature drive the specific lens design, with new skirts following the linear shape of the sclera so there is no need to choose between fixed skirt or base curve options.

Sounds complicated? Not really as these new lenses are empirically fitted, eliminating the need for multi-use diagnostic fitting sets and trial lens application, while also reducing chair time.

In our next post, we will give you more information on the design, fitting and handling of these lenses. In the meantime, if you would like any more information, feel free to contact Professional Services here.
