HydraMed

What makes HydraMed different?

HydraMed’s unique bi-polymer provides ‘best-of-both-worlds’ benefits that are greater than the sum of its two parts.

The interaction between both Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and Tamarind Seed Polysaccharide (TSP) is synergistic, resulting in a single bi-polymer unique to HydraMed.

Hydration properties

HA is a viscoelastic polysaccharide found naturally in the human body, including the eye. Good quality, high molecular weight HA has exceptional water-binding properties that can hold 3000x its own weight in water.

Stabilising properties

TSP is a naturally occurring, viscoelastic polymer with a chemical structure similar to ocular surface-active mucin.2

The excellent mucoadhesive properties of TSP may help stabilise the tear film, improve the condition of the ocular surface and support the post-contact lens tear layer.

The difference is clearly visible

HydraMed improves patient comfort and the condition of the ocular surface

HydraMed increases ocular comfort for the patient by:

HA + TSP remains up to 84% longer on the pre-corneal surface than HA alone3

  • Strong bio and mucoadhesive properties prolong retention times
  • Longer residency allows for longer relief and dose reduction

Reducing osmolarity

  • The hypotonic formulation creates an immediate isotonic effect
  • Immediate comfort upon instillation by correcting osmotic imbalance

Contact Lens Induced Dry Eye or CLIDE is the most common cause of discomfort and contact lens drop out

HydraMed is a synergistic formula that improves contact lens comfort at both ends of the day.

Data from a UK multi-centre practice based study1 of contact lens wearers using HydraMed on the inside of the lens during lens application, has supported the effectiveness of HydraMed:
  • To improve contact lens comfort at the beginning as well as at the end of the day
  • In reducing contact lens dryness sensations
  • To improve contact lens wearing times

Improved contact lens comfort

64% of users reported HydraMed made their dry eye irritations better at the end of the day, with 72% saying they were also better at the beginning of the day.
At the end of the day:
  • Only 3 patients reported often getting dryness symptoms with HydraMed
  • 32 (88%) patients reported never or just sometimes having symptoms (a greater than 50% improvement on symptoms reported at dispensing)

Reduced contact lens dryness sensations

Following use of HydraMed there was a 4-fold reduction in reports of dryness and an 8-fold reduction in reports of grittiness.

Improved contact lens wearing times

83% of patients strongly agreed/agreed that HydraMed delayed their onset of contact lens discomfort.

HydraMed comes in two preservative free formats to help meet differing patient needs

Not all Hyaluronic Acid containing drops are created equal…

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) has rightly gained a reputation as the ‘go-to’ active ingredient to help relieve dry eye symptoms. However, not all HA is the same.

Many products use poor quality, low molecular weight and/or low concentration HA formulations. These bind less water reducing the residency time on the ocular surface rendering them less effective.

HydraMed is different

Reduce the number of Dry Eye drops on your shelf

Stocking lots of older generation (often similar) formulations makes no sense from a clinical or a commercial perspective, resulting in:

  • Confusion as to what to recommend
  • Cash tied up in unnecessary stock
  • Buying quantities too small for best pricing

Switch to HydraMed for a new level of clinical and commercial success in your Dry Eye practice.

HydraMed Night Sensitive

Preservative & Lanolin Free Lubricating Eye Ointment with Vitamin A

The improved lanolin-free formulation is for more sensitive eyes. With around 1 in 10 patients potentially allergic to lanolin this is the first gel of its type. The new formulation is also preservative-free and contains herbal extracts of calendula and chamomile for more soothing relief.
HydraMed Night Sensitive also contains vitamin A which is part of the natural tear film and is found in the cells of the cornea. This makes it effective when used topically.

The new night time gel complements the successful HydraMed drops; these contain a unique advanced formulation of two functional ingredients, high-molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA), which restores and retains hydration, and tamarind seed polysaccharide (TSP), which repairs the ocular surface. HydraMed also restores the isotonic balance of the tears, helping maintain the eyes natural health.

The two HydraMed eyedrop formats help meet differing patient needs. There is the multi-dose bottle which ensure the safe delivery of preservative free drops for up to 90 days after opening and the novel re-sealable daily dose vial, which means that patients can re-use the vial during the day.

HydraMed’s synergistic formula has been shown to be effective against Contact Lens Induced Dry Eye, known as CLIDE. A UK multi practice-based study of 25 patients used HydraMed on the inside of the contact lens during application, with data illustrating that it improved contact lens comfort. In the study, 64% of users reported that HydraMed made their dry eye irritations better at the end of the day, with 72% saying they were also better at the start of the day.

Positive Impact’s marketing and professional services director, Nick Atkins, said: “The HydraMed range really delivers on our desire to provide customers with best-in-class dry eye solutions. Practitioner feedback on the improvement HydraMed drops is having on their patient Dry Eye signs and symptoms has been phenomenal and now, for those patients who benefit from a gel overnight, we have the only lanolin-free formulation on the market.”
