Myopia Progression Management takes centre stage in London
Over 60 practitioners attended a sell-out meeting sponsored by Visioneering Technologies Inc. (VTI) in London this week. Keynote speaker was Dr. Tom Aller OD who, as well as sharing general data on the myopia epidemic and the current evidence for intervention, also shared his own experiences and data from almost 30-years managing myopia progression using various techniques. He also shared his own, as well as others results from fitting the company’s NaturalVue® (etaflicon A) Multifocal 1 Day contact lenses to children.
Dr. Peg Achenbach OD, VTI’s Vice President, Global Professional Services and Clinical Science, also took delegates through the unique features and benefits of NaturalVue’s patented extended depth of focus technology that is CE marked for both presbyopia and myopia progression management. She explained that it is “different but not difficult” to fit, explaining that with no add to consider it is fitted much like a single-vision lens.
The final part of the evening was a Q&A session that saw 3 UK practitioners, Joy Hynes, Elaine Lucas and Kieran Minshull, share their early experiences fitting NaturalVue, on both myopes and presbyopes. Nick Atkins, Director of Professional Services and Marketing for Positive Impact, VTI’s distribution partner in the UK, added, "Myopia management is the next frontier for optometry.
We now know that myopic kids don’t have to become just another statistic for high myopia with the inherent risks of pathology that brings. So, we were pleased so many practitioners attended . our event and delighted the feedback rating for the seminar was 100% excellent or very good.”
